Why You Need to File an Annual Return
Just like your income taxes, you need to file your annual return each year. It keeps your corporate information current with Alberta Corporate Registries and failing to do so could result in your corporation being struck from the register. So, it’s fair to say it’s one of your most important administrative duties.
We can help with annual returns at any AMA Centre. Simply stop by, or book an appointment to visit us on your schedule. You can even submit your annual return form online through your AMA Online Account.

When to File an Annual Return
To keep your business current, file your annual return by the last day of the month that follows the anniversary of your registration month.
For example: If your corporation was registered in April, you should file your return by May 31. (Note: deadlines in 2021 were extended depending on the date of your last filing, if you're unsure of your new deadline or whether your company is affected, please call us at 1-866-989-63701-866-989-6370).
When filing your annual return, you just need:
- One piece of identification
- Your AMA Membership Card (if you have one, members get 10% off)
- An open_in_new Annual Return form (pdf). You will receive a copy of this form from Corporate Registries to remind you to file your annual return. If you’ve already received this form by mail, you do not need to download our form.

Reviving Struck Corporations
There are several reasons a business might be struck from the register of Alberta Corporate Registries, the most common of which is unpaid annual returns. All corporations and limited liability partnerships are required to file their annual returns each year with the Government of Alberta. Failure to do so will result in your business being struck, but that doesn’t have to mean it’s closed for good. If you want to revive a struck corporation, our business registries specialists can help in-centre or by email.

Steps to Complete the Revival Process:

After you’ve confirmed that you’d like to revive your business, complete the Articles of Revival form open_in_new and send it our way.

Once you’ve submitted the paperwork and officially started the process, you’ll need to file any outstanding annual returns. This will cost $82 for each outstanding annual return.

From there you’ll need to verify your information one final time before we can file your completed paperwork. Shortly after, you’ll receive a Proof of Filing for each Annual Return filed and a Certificate of Revival. The cost for completing this final step is $300.
