Trip Collision Reimbursement

A serious vehicle collision when travelling away from home can create a lot of financial issues. Food, accommodation, and transportation expenses add to the already high cost of your initial vehicle repairs. All levels of AMA membership come with Trip Collision Reimbursement, which helps you recover some of those costs associated with your collision and delays in your trip.

Amount of Coverage Available

Basic AMA Membership: $300 per membership year year
Plus / Plus RV AMA Membership: $600 per membership year

Expenses That May be Covered

  • Accommodations (hotels, motels, bed & breakfast)
  • Meals from local restaurants (up to $40 a day, per member, excluding alcohol)
  • Commercially licensed passenger transportation
    • Car rental (excluding fuel and rental insurance)
    • Bus
    • Train
    • Airplane
    • Ferry

How to Apply for Trip Collision Reimbursement

Contact AMA to see if you qualify for Trip Collision Reimbursement after your accident. All claims must be submitted within 60 days of the collision. We’ll take into consideration qualifying expenses incurred up to 72 hours from the time of the collision, after release from the hospital, or until you reach your residence or destination (whichever comes first). Just make sure you’ve kept your receipts, as they’ll need to be submitted with your claim.

Additional Conditions of Trip Collision Reimbursement

  • Coverage applies to non-commercial passenger vehicles, motorcycles, and RVs.
  • AMA membership must be active and paid in full at the time of the collision.
  • Collision must occur more than 125 km from the AMA member’s residence.
  • All AMA members in the vehicle at the time of the collision qualify for reimbursement.
  • Children 15 or younger (under the Kids Go Free program) do not qualify for this benefit.
  • Documentation is required to confirm hospital stay, date, and time.
  • A copy of the police collision report or a claim report from the member’s insurance company must be submitted with all claims. This should include the date, time, place and damage estimate related to the collision.
  • Trip Collision Reimbursement does not cover mechanical breakdowns, vehicle fires, electrical problems, vandalism, or theft of your vehicle.
  • All claim requests must be submitted within 60 days.
