How do I Sign Up for Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew?

You know that vehicle in your garage, the one with the licence plate that has that little sticker with a year on it (maybe even last year’s)? And you know that registration certificate, the one that expires every April if your last name starts with G (but not Gr)?

Yes, you’re right, it is tough to keep track of those things. And really, who wants to anyway? Especially now that AMA can blow your vehicle registration anxiety away with our first-in-Canada Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew service.

Now you can log in and sign up once through My Online Account and let us do the remembering for you. Forever.

I know, it’s hard to believe anything can really be that simple, but we’re all about surprising you. So if you still aren’t convinced, read through these FAQs to see just how easy it is to never forget again.

Why is AMA launching Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew?

We’re always looking for new ways to make life a little more convenient for our members. Now that the provincial government no longer mails out vehicle registration renewal notices and reminders, AMA wanted to find a way to help take care of the renewal automatically, every year.

We developed a safe, secure and convenient system to automate annual vehicle registration renewals when you log in and sign up through AMA’s My Online Account. The new service is exclusive to AMA members, and with monthly payment plans starting at $8/month, there’s never been a better time to join.

How do AMA members sign up to automate their annual renewals?

Logging in through AMA’s My Online Account allows you to manage simple tasks like adding an associate member, automatically renewing your AMA membership each year, or changing your address. Now you can also sign up for Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew by following a few simple steps and adding a Visa or MasterCard to your account. We’ll send you emails each year to give you a heads up before your registration expires and then a confirmation to let you know your new stickers and certificate are in the mail.

How will I know when and how much AMA will charge for the renewal?

When you’ve signed up for Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew the next thing you have to do is… nothing. That’s because six weeks before your expiry date, we’ll send you an email letting you know the exact date and the amount we’ll charge your credit card. Vehicle registration fees are set by the Government of Alberta and there is no extra fee to sign up or cancel your auto-renew service.

Can another family member in my household also take advantage of auto-renew?

You betcha. My Online Account is the place where you can add your spouse, teenager, or significant other as an associate member. Once they are added to your account, you (or they) can sign up for Vehicle Registration Auto-Renew and start never forgetting again.

What happens if I sell my vehicle, change addresses or my payment card expires?

We’ll email you with a gentle reminder six weeks before your annual renewal date to check in and see if you sold the vehicle, changed addresses, or replaced your credit card, which could affect your registration renewal. If we run into any issues, we’ll contact you again to sort things out.

That sounds alright, but what do I do if the licence plate sticker doesn’t come in the mail?

We’re working hard behind the scenes to make sure that doesn’t happen. When your automated renewal comes up each year, a real human being will help process the transaction and mail out the registration certificate and licence plate sticker. If you still find yourself eyeing the calendar skeptically a week before the deadline, give us a call at 1-844-733-1017 and we’ll make sure we get you the paperwork on time.
