When the air is fragranced with sunscreen and bug spray, and the sweet tones of exhaust pipes rock you to sleep, you know it’s summer in Alberta. But perhaps the biggest sign of the season – and certainly the most fun – is the arrival of the province’s many festivals.
Below, we highlight five festivals worth your time and SPF. And the best part? AMA will be there to give exclusive perks and fun surprises to our community of members.
Edmonton Folk Music Festival
There's a magic to Edmonton's Folk Fest that can't be described until you've sat on the hill at Gallagher Park, watching thousands of candles sway to the rhythm of beautiful music. Genres from across the world will hit the stage August 9 to 12, 2018, and you're bound to discover a new favourite artist or band.
AMA will be there each day of the festival, Thursday through Sunday.
Country Thunder Music Festival
If you’re a country music fan, grab your cowboy hat and get fixin’ to whoop it up when Country Thunder rolls into Calgary on August 17 to 19, 2018.
This 3-day event held at Prairie Winds Park (223 Castle Ridge BLVD NE, Calgary) will feature some of the hottest country artists on stage, such as Dierks Bentley, Toby Keith, Eric Church, and many more.

Edmonton Blues Festival
Blues Fest is an intimate, world-class celebration of sizzling licks and rootsy soul, with performances that span the blues, rock n’ roll, roots, and more. This year’s festival at Edmonton's Heritage Amphitheatre from August 24 to 26, 2018, includes such marquee names as Booker T, Samantha Fish, Sugaray Rayford, as well as lesser-known performers, like Nikki Hill and Paul DesLauriers Band, who are sure to scorch the stage.
Go for the blistering bass lines, stay for the chill vibe and one of the best parties of the summer. Look for the AMA table on August 26 from noon to 10 p.m.
Fort McMurray Empty Bowls Festival
Buy a handmade bowl for $20. Load it up with tasty food from Fort McMurray restaurants! AMA is a proud sponsor of local food banks, and the 3rd annual Empty Bowls on September 9, 2018, is another way we like to help Albertans in need. In addition to sampling delicious creations, visitors will groove to live music performances and admire fine crafts on sale throughout the festival grounds at Jubilee Plaza.
Every bowl purchase goes to support the Wood Buffalo Food Bank.
