Did you know that Earth Day, which comes around every year on April 22, actually began in 1970? It’s an important time of year that encourages us to take action toward protecting our planet—whether that means pledging an Earth Action on social media, attending or planning a local event, or donating to your favourite Earth-related cause.
Here at AMA, we protect what matters most and that includes our planet for generations to come. You can learn about some of the things we’ve done lately in our 2024 Impact Report. Read about the progress we’ve made with our forever forests (planting 200,000 trees by our 100th birthday in 2026), our plans for solar, and much more.
Interested in taking action? Here’s some ways you can help!
- Make your backyard an oasis for pollinators: Just like so many of our members, AMA’s passionate about bees and pollinators! In fact, we’ve got 20 AMA hives around the provinces that are home to 1,000,000 bees—one for each of our members. With one out of every three bites we take directly connected to a pollinator, follow these tips to make your backyard pollinator and bee friendly.
- Plant a tree: We’re planting forests in celebration of our 100th anniversary and you can start a little forest of your own. Another way to observe Earth Day is by planting a tree, and we’ve got some tips to get you started.
- Join us on Earth Day: On April 22, we’ll be at AMA Calgary Crowfoot and AMA St. Albert to celebrate our planet alongside our friends (and beekeepers) at Alveole. Stop by any time between 10 am – 12 pm to learn about our bees, taste some honey, and even walk away with a package of free wildflowers seeds while quantities last.
- Make a donation: The AMA Community Foundation is creating a better world for future generations by supporting four main pillars, including Climate Good. To learn more about the work we’re doing thanks to members and donors like you, check out our new website.
However you decide to help out on Earth Day, know that you’re alongside our one million members making a difference. Imagine the difference we could make if we all did something this Earth Day. Much like our million little bees busy pollinating, small actions add up to big impact.
