For more than two decades, Red Deer’s Parkland Nurseries and Garden Centre and renowned Calgary ice sculptor Lee Ross have welcomed winter visitors with spectacular, elaborate ice sculptures. The highlight of the nursery’s annual Christmas displays and markets, the crystalline artworks glisten in the sun by day, and by night, they’re backlit with coloured lights, creating an ethereal glow best complemented by a hot apple cider. There’s a new theme each year; best times to visit are mid-December to early January. Admission is free; donations to the Red Deer Food Bank are encouraged. And if you’re there, look for the AMA sculpture.
